History

CEF work in Romania began in 1972 under the pioneering ministry of Trudy Kuhlman – CEF missionary from USA. Despite the difficulties and dangers of children’s ministry at that time under a strict and harsh communist regime, God blessed and used Trudy in amazing ways to encourage, train and help the local churches. Following the Revolution of 1989, when communist dictator Nicolae Ceaucescu was overthrown, Romania entered into a new era. Religious freedom was one of the benefits this new era offered. The Gospel could now be freely and openly proclaimed! During the latter part of the 1980s until 1992 God continued to bless the work of CEF under the leadership of Roberta Stevenson (N. Ireland).  National Office ministry was established during this time and also the first National workers joined the mission. In 1993 Tom Somerville (N. Ireland) took over leadership responsibility. Until 1999 God used Tom to set up many of the structures within the mission which helped it grow and develop and to build up the team of National workers. Linda Corry took over the leadership from 1999 - 2008 when she passed the leadership of CEF Romania to Iulian & Anca Mangalagiu.

CEF has different types of evangelistic programs, but the two most identified with the organization are 5-Day Clubs® and Good News Clubs®. These two exciting ministries take place in neighbourhood settings such as homes, backyards, schools and community centers all over the world. These fast-paced, one-hour programs are designed to bring the Gospel of Christ to children on their level in their environment.

Along with the clubs, CEF also has camping, open-air and Bible correspondence outreach programs for children. CEF provides classes to train their workers and other Christians who are burdened for evangelizing children. The Children's Ministry Leadership Course (CMLC), a modular 3-month course located at CEF's National Training Centre, Sibiu, is dedicated to providing quality, practical training for those called of God to take the Gospel message to children. Similar training is offered in various locations around the world.

The CEF literature department produces and distributes Bible and missionary lessons and related materials for use in teaching children to help accomplish the goals of the ministry. Many products are translated into some 90 different languages and distributed around the world. CEF of Romania has translated many of these literature items.

CEF offers a variety of opportunities for involvement in the ministry - from volunteer service as a Good News Club teacher or in the National Office to part-time, short-term, summer or full-time service in Romania and abroad.

An exciting program for teenagers is Youth Challenge™. During the year young people meet regularly and learn about how to live for God. Each year in June young people are trained to conduct 5-Day Clubs at the Summer Missionary Training Course. Throughout the summer they have many opportunities to present the Gospel to boys and girls, experiencing the joy of leading others to the Lord.
